Freeflow Business

Getting creative with words

Would you like to write with fluency, with creativity and clarity? Do you need to learn to tap into intuition, the spontaneous flow of ideas and words that make for a great first draft? Freeflow Business will tune up your writing skills and take your creative muscles to the gym for a thorough Freeflow work-out.

Freeflow is for anyone who wants to put a flow of ideas in written form. It's all about tapping into intuition, and opening up to imagination and creativity. It’s about being ready to be surprised by what you write as the words flow onto the page. Freeflow Business also covers editing and redrafting, as well as grammar and punctuation essentials, structure and readability. It shows you how to write clear concise prose that engages and holds a reader’s attention, how to avoid the pitfalls of trying too hard to impress.

Learning a new approach

Many of us have learned to write in a way that does not promote fluency and creativity. We may be trying to edit and write at the same time, working so hard at planning and controlling our work that our energy becomes stifled. It’s like trying to drive with the handbrake on, and it’s a recipe for making everything a hard slog.

It doesn’t have to be like this. There is another way of approaching writing. I call it Freeflow. The key task here is to disentangle the process of writing (a first draft) from that of editing, or rewriting. We need to recognise that writing is not simply a process of finding words for what we know, or want to say. It is a way of discovering what we know, of finding out just what it is we want to say.

The writer who enjoys the job of writing, who can be seriously playful and playfully serious with words, is more likely to produce successful prose. Moreover, the process of writing in this way is sustainable, which is not the case if you are feeling stressed and fearful.

Freeflow Business is an approach to writing that frees up the writer’s creativity. It is aimed at people who use writing at work, who need to develop fluency and energy in the way they use language. It’s a system that has come out of rigorous research, that is tried and tested. Many hundreds of writers have taken Freeflow courses and workshops. Freeflow Business now offers this expertise to the corporate world.

Workshops and courses can be tailored to client needs. Alan Hancock is also available for individual coaching in writing and spoken communication. To read an extract from one of Alan’s published articles on writing for business, click on the link to Writing with Style.
